Hi Everyone! My name is Katie and I'm an undergraduate at SIUE in the Speech-Language Pathology program. I grew up in St. Louis, which is a city near school.
* Is this your first international trip?
It's not my first trip abroad but it is my first time to anywhere in Africa so I'm pretty excited about that.
* Why did you decide to participate in this trip?
To be honest, I wish I had a good, clear answer to this. It's kind of a combination of many different reasons. I'm sure that this is going to be a good life experience and a unique learning opportunity. I think it is going to give us different perspectives on what we can be doing as speech-path students.
And on top of that, I like traveling when I can. So all of that together helped to make it a pretty easy decision. I really didn't want to pass this up.
* Most excited about ... ? * Nervous about ... ?
I think what I am most excited about is the same thing I am nervous about. How different (I expect) it will be is definitely a great thing. But it is also a bit intimidating to me. Definitely mixed feelings about it.
* What do you hope to gain from this trip?
I'm hoping to gain a little more insight into communication in a variety of settings. Whether it's a foreign language with completely different norms or conditions preventing easy communication, there's a lot for me to learn.
