Settling In

Post for June 2, 2018

Packed and hit the bus this morning. We stopped for some supply shopping and other necessities. We got wash buckets and irons. It’s kind of funny to me that the store we visited (Game Market) was so similar to Wal-Mart. No getting away from that giant’s presence.

The bus ride to Ndejje University had felt longer than it actually was but that was probably more due to being tired than anything else. Lots of laughs during the bumpy back road as we got closer to the school. Our group continued from the dorms, to the main campus, to the professors’ house. All along the way there were plenty of greetings exchanged with pretty much everyone we passed. Some people of our group would wave from the bus windows and shout their hellos.

Our dinner tonight was my favorite so far. It was many of the same traditional dishes that we had yesterday, but I had liked this more home-style preparation. There was one new addition, chapati, which is a bit of a cross between naan and tortillas. Wished I had grabbed more but I think we will be eating more of it from the school cafeteria.

It was a bit of an adventure to unpack, set up our rooms, and settle into the dorms a bit.
