Today was a half day in Mukono so we only had time to visit the Uganda School for the Deaf. It is a public school that for hard of hearing and deaf students. The school has some primary education classes as well as some vocational training. Our guide mentioned a few of the challenges the school faces and it seems to center around finding qualified teachers. He had stated that the school often hires new, unexperienced teachers and it takes time to train them to be proficient with sign language. This school has a total of 217 students and 27 teachers, 17 of whom are special needs teachers.

Another interesting thing about this school is their audiology department. We were told that the digital hearing aids are a little troublesome for them since they are not so easy to fix. They would prefer the analog hearing aids, but no one makes them anymore.

After this school visit, there was enough time for a little bit of shopping and pizza! A very good day!
