For the past few weeks, we have been practicing a game called Wood Ball. Our coach is Mrs. Lilian, who is ranked the #1 in Africa and #3 in the world. She’d been very patient with our group to teach us how to play. This has all been in preparation for today.
Today was the Wood Ball tournament and I was surprised to learn that it was also the tenth anniversary of the sport in Uganda. We woke early so that all of us and some Ndejje players could bus to the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. I was paired with Mica and we started getting some of the other players to clap for us while they waited for their turn. And most surprising of all, some of my shots were pretty good. I even finished one fairway in only three strokes!
We took a break for lunch and some of the group returned to play doubles. I decided to stay in the shade and enjoy the day. Just in case anyone had ANY questions about it...we didn't win.
Another thing to note were the storks in this area. Huge! We were told that some get up to 5 feet tall! A really great and fun day!
